When you know what you love, go for it! That’s TK’s motto for making it in media. Her journey started when she joined MFM radio during her student days at Stellenbosch University in 2009. That experience kick-started her love of radio and media and once she joined Good Hope FM she was hooked for 10 years! Hosting a variety of shows allowed TK to meet industry game-changers and led her to discover how content was dramatically changing. She decided to change with it…Here’s what she had to say.

2019 was my year to disrupt the industry with my ground breaking audio and video podcast show: The MVP Club with TK! The independent nature of YouTube and podcasting allows me to discuss subjects that don’t usually fly on traditional and conservative media platforms. My listeners also want content, on their terms. Online channels allow them to consume content how they want when they want it. Digital is where it’s at!

My tips for creating content:

1.   Stay true to yourself

Create the kind of content you would read/listen/watch/share.

2.   Be smart

You don’t need to spend loads of cash to get started. Blogging, vlogging and podcasting are free, anyone can do it. You don’t need to the best equipment at the start, that can come later. All you need now is a decent smartphone and something to say.

3.  Hustle hard

Making a success of your personal brand doesn’t happen between 9-5. If you want it you can have it, if you work hard enough.

4.  Ask for help

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the skilled production team that allowed me to take my vision to the next level.

5.  Reliable tech

The MVP Club with TK would not be possible without some serious tech that keeps my brand and the show going. I’m the first to admit that I’m not a tech geek and while I’m certainly not the first to get the latest gear, I don’t know how I would run my brand and business without these items:

Not only is this smartphone pretty (I mean look at that ombre blue cover!) but it also has a killer camera that takes the best selfies and a huge 128GB storage so that I never worry about running out of space. I use my phone every day to update my social media pages through my fav apps and to check my email and work on the move when I don’t have time to open my laptop.

Keeping healthy and fit is the only way to stay sane when your job is as demanding as mine. The Huawei Band 3 Pro keeps track of my fitness levels and helps improve my sleep with its built-in heart rate monitor. Bonus that it’s a hot looking design as well, and it comes in gold! (it’s also on sale at the moment!)

I can’t live without at least one power bank with me at all times because the day stops for no one when you’re in the digital game. This powerful 5000 mAh one has double ports so I can charge two devices at once and it’s an affordable price.

I love these wireless earphones that allow me to listen to music or review my podcast recordings with no annoying cables getting in the way or messing with my look.

Having a fast and reliable internet connection is an absolute necessity for me. This little portable router fits in my handbag and is great because it’s not connected to any network so I can choose which provider offers me the best data at the best price.
